Men's Graphic Tees: How to Wear Them Without Trying Too Hard

Men's graphic tees are the one piece of clothing that talks. The rest of your outfit sets the tone; the tee says what you're into. Which is exactly why the difference between a good one and a bad one matters more here than anywhere else in the closet. We stock a couple hundred graphic tees at Rooster Bus, so we've developed opinions.
What Separates a Good Graphic Tee
Two things: the shirt and the art. The shirt should be heavyweight or organic cotton that holds its shape, because a great print on tissue paper is still tissue paper. The art should come from an actual artist. Hand-drawn characters, real illustration, prints that fade with the shirt instead of cracking off it. If it looks like it came from a clip-art library, it did.
Our own Palma line, which you can only get at Rooster Bus, was built for Arizona heat: breathable warm-weather pieces with graphics that stay on the right side of loud.
How to Style a Graphic Tee Past 25
The rule is one statement per outfit. Let the tee talk and keep everything else quiet: plain jeans or chinos, clean sneakers or boots, maybe an open short sleeve button down or flannel over it. A graphic tee under an unbuttoned overshirt is the single easiest good casual outfit going. What ages poorly isn't the graphic tee itself, it's a loud tee fighting loud shorts and a loud hat.
Fit Still Comes First
Same standard as any tee: shoulders seam at the shoulder, sleeve hitting mid-bicep, hem you can wear untucked without it reading as a nightgown. A great print on a bad fit is a pajama top. When in doubt, come try them on; the stack changes constantly and half the fun is the dig.

Make the Print Outlast the Trend
A good graphic tee dies two ways: heat and friction. Wash it inside out in cold water, skip the dryer when you can, and never iron across the print. Water-based inks are built to fade evenly with the fabric, which is the look you want; plastisol prints crack when they're cheap and cooked. Treated right, the tee and its art age together, and a well-faded favorite ends up looking better at year three than it did new.
One more buying tip from the floor: check the print placement against your build. A chest hit sits differently on a 5'8" frame than a 6'3" one, and back prints disappear entirely under an overshirt. If you mostly wear tees layered, spend your money on left-chest and sleeve hits that stay visible.
Graphic Tees FAQ
Are graphic tees still in style for men?
Yes, and they never really left. What changed is the standard: quality fabric, real artwork, one statement per outfit. The band-tee-and-cargo-shorts era is what people remember badly, not the tee itself.
How should a graphic tee fit?
Like your best plain tee: shoulder seams on the shoulder, mid-bicep sleeve, untucked-friendly hem. Boxier cuts work if the rest of the outfit is trim.
Where can I find graphic tees that aren't at every mall?
Rooster Bus, in Old Town Scottsdale and downtown Flagstaff, plus online. Independent brands, artist-drawn prints, and our own exclusive Palma line.
